I AM Malmo Arab Film Festival - MAFF

Malmö Arab Film Festival (MAFF) is an intercultural platform for diversity and tolerance. The festival is widely regarded as one of the most influential and largest festival with an Arabic cinema focus and offers a platform for collaboration between the Nordic and Arab film industries. MAFF is the largest festival with an Arabic cinema focus outside the Arab world.
The festival was initiated through a common need in Malmo and Sweden – a grassroots striving for an Arabic cultural platform with the film as the binding element. MAFF is an intercultural meeting place for discourse and a bridge-building catalyst between people and cultures. The festival was initiated and founded in 2011 by festival’s general manager and artistic director Mouhamad Keblawi.
The festival screen around 120 features, short films and documentaries from all over the world, with competition sections, panoramas, retrospectives and special screenings. The program also consists of exhibitions, workshops, seminars, celebrations and an industry forum for collaboration between the Nordic and Arab film industries – MAFF Market Forum (MMF) that is held in parallell to the festival.
Malmö Arab Film Festival is one of the largest public film festivals in Southern Sweden. The organization has an annual structure with events and festivals all over Sweden, special projects and programs.. .

    Terms and conditions
    The festival lasts between October 6 til October 10 and the films will be mainly shown in Malmo but also in other cities in the region in parallell with the festival days (maximum 4 showings).
    Films that may participate in the festival are selected by the festival’s judging committee.
    Applicants for participation in the festival have no guarantee that the film will be shown during the festival.
    There is no fee for applying. No compensation will be paid by the festival to showcase the film.
    Notification of approved films sent to participants a 2 month before the festival’s start date.
    Films that are selected to participate in the festival may not be withdrawn.
    Malmo Arab Film Festival has the right to manage the use of film clips and photographs from submitted films selected for the festival for all its image, or print ads in all pages on the Internet utmost to promote the festival.

    NOTE: Private individuals, companies, copyright owners, film producers, and film production companies have the opportunity to participate in the Festival if they meet all requirements.

    Malmo Arab Film Festival presents competition selections for feature fiction, documenatries and short ficition. The following awards are presented for each selection.
