Malmö Arab Film Festival (MAFF) is an intercultural platform for diversity and tolerance. The festival is widely regarded as one of the most influential and largest festival with an Arabic cinema focus and offers a platform for collaboration between the Nordic and Arab film industries. MAFF is the largest festival with an Arabic cinema focus outside the Arab world.
The festival was initiated through a common need in Malmo and Sweden – a grassroots striving for an Arabic cultural platform with the film as the binding element. MAFF is an intercultural meeting place for discourse and a bridge-building catalyst between people and cultures. The festival was initiated and founded in 2011 by festival’s general manager and artistic director Mouhamad Keblawi.
The festival screen around 120 features, short films and documentaries from all over the world, with competition sections, panoramas, retrospectives and special screenings. The program also consists of exhibitions, workshops, seminars, celebrations and an industry forum for collaboration between the Nordic and Arab film industries – MAFF Market Forum (MMF) that is held in parallell to the festival.
Malmö Arab Film Festival is one of the largest public film festivals in Southern Sweden. The organization has an annual structure with events and festivals all over Sweden, special projects and programs.. .
